The corner unit on Bridge Street that has stood empty since the old bakery closed in January is to reopen, with the new owners confirming they will keep it as a working bakery rather than convert it to flats.
Fresh bread is expected to be on the shelves from early next month, with a handful of cafe tables at the back once the kitchen passes inspection.
A vote of confidence in the square
Traders on the square have watched the unit anxiously; an empty shopfront on the busiest corner tends to drag on footfall for everyone. Several nearby businesses told the Bulletin they were relieved to see the shutters going up rather than a to-let board staying put.
The new operators say they plan to:
- Open six days a week, closing Mondays
- Take on at least three part-time staff, hiring locally
- Supply loaves to two of the village pubs on the Llanfair road
Whether the cafe corner can survive a quiet Radnor winter remains the real test. For now, the smell of baking is due back on the square, and that is no small thing.
