Radnor Town Council has formally backed a reduced 30mph speed limit along the stretch of Bridge Street that passes the primary school, following a petition signed by more than 400 residents over the summer.
The vote, seven in favour and two against, does not change the limit on its own. It asks the county highways authority to carry out a formal assessment, a process officers said could take up to nine months.
What happens next
Highways will now be asked to log traffic speeds at the school gates before term ends. Councillors stressed that data collection, not the vote itself, will decide the outcome.
- A speed survey to run over two weeks in October
- Consultation with the school and neighbouring residents
- A costed report back to the council before the winter recess
The two councillors who opposed the motion argued that a limit alone would do little without a proper crossing, and pushed for a zebra crossing to be considered at the same time. That amendment was noted but not carried.
