Young cyclists map a safer route to school and put it to the council

A group of pupils from Radnor’s secondary years has done what a lot of adults only talk about: they mapped their own route to school, marked the dangerous bits, and took it to the town council.

The map, drawn up over several weeks, pinpoints the junctions and blind bends where the students say cycling feels least safe.

From classroom to Guildhall

Councillors, who received the map at their last meeting, said they were struck by how specific it was compared with the general complaints they usually hear.

  • Three junctions flagged where sightlines are blocked by parked cars
  • A stretch of the Llanfair road with no verge to pull onto
  • A request for a cycle rack near the school gates

The council agreed to pass the map to the highways authority alongside its own speed-limit request, and invited the students back to see how their work is used. Whether it leads to anything concrete will take months to know, but the pupils have set a standard for evidence the grown-ups may struggle to match.
