Village hall committee warns rising bills could force fewer bookings

The trustees of Llanfair Common village hall have warned that rising running costs could mean fewer subsidised bookings unless a way is found to bring bills down.

Energy costs for the hall have roughly doubled over two years, the committee said, and the building’s ageing heating system loses much of what it burns.

Looking for a fix

Rather than simply passing the cost on, trustees say they want to tackle the building itself before touching hire charges too heavily.

  • A survey of the roof insulation, thought to be original
  • Quotes for a more efficient heating system
  • A modest, tiered increase in hire fees from the new year

The hall hosts everything from the toddler group to the pensioners’ lunch, and trustees were keen to stress that regular community bookings would be protected as far as possible. A public meeting to discuss the options is planned for later this month.
